Ilmburst Presents: A Year with the Qur'an

Event Information

A Year with the Qur'an

An online Islamic Studies Club for 11-15 years old

Why is my body so ugly?

I’m not fitting in.

Why is the world so messed up?

I haven’t prayed today.

I didn’t want to do what they made me do at school.

Can’t stand my parents.

Typical thoughts and questions that may swarm the mind of a young Muslim teen navigating their way through a precious but precarious stage in their life.

Our young people do not know what the Qur’an contains or how relevant it is to their challenges and everyday lives. ‘A Year with the Qur’an’ aims to change that.

What will the program offer?

The year will be split up into three parts, each part focusing on a different theme, all centred around ayahs/Surahs from the Qur’an. Think stories, parables, golden advice, principles, all extracted from the beautiful ayaat of the Qur’an.

Term 1: Building Myself

During this term we will cover:

  • Body Image (Separate workshop for boys and girls)
  • Identity and Self-worth
  • Purpose and Meaning
  • The Courage to Stand Alone
  • Overcoming Sadness and Sorrow

Term 2 - Relationship With Others

During this term we will cover:

  • Good Character
  • Friendship and Peer Influence
  • Respect for Parents and Family
  • Digital Responsibility
  • Conflict Resolution and Forgiveness

Term 3 - Engaging With the World

During this term we will cover:

  • Knowledge and Learning
  • Hope, Gratitude, and Renewal
  • Perseverance through Challenges
  • Stewardship and Responsibility (Khilāfah)
  • Serving Humanity

Some of the surahs we will be taking a deep dive into:

Al-Hujurat, Al-Isra, Al-Kahf, Al-Ma’un, Al-‘Alaq, Az-Zumar, Luqman, Yusuf, Ad-Duha and Ash-Sharh.

Just Another Islamic Studies Class?

No, although there will be some formal learning, there will be a relaxed element where there will be discussions, activities, and termly challenges with prizes. The key will be to develop a rapport with young people and see them grow on this quest to establish a connection with the book of Allah, learn to navigate challenges, and deal with the people and world around them, all through guidance from the Qur’an.
