Welcome to Ilmburst’s unique course “Heroes and Villains”, a year of exploring the stories of amazing heroes in the form of the blessed companions and what the heart of a hero looks like, and then a detailed case study of Shaytan, his traps and how to protect and fortify from him.
Each session will be interactive with discussions and activities specifically targeted at addressing issues affecting young people.
The year will be split up into three parts, each part focusing on a different topic, all centred around the theme of ‘Heroes and Villains’.
In this term, students will explore the heart of a hero. How do we keep our hearts pure? How do we purify them, tranquil them and strengthen them so that they can withstand temptations and the whispering of the shaytan? What is a ‘qalbun salim (a pure heart)?’
In the latter part of each session, we will explore ahadith related to the purification of the heart.
Topics we will delve into:
This term will explore the stories of young heroes from the child companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him). What qualities did they possess that made them stand out and shine at such a young age? As well as their stories, we’ll draw out lessons that we can use in our lives.
How can we emulate Zayd ibn Thabit’s immense love of the Qur’an in our busy lives, or the sense of service and love for the Prophet (peace be upon him) that Anas ibn Malik had?
In the latter part of each session, we will look at snippets from the world of the angels, their relationship with the believers; stories of how they aided the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the companions, and how they are present for the believers today. Students will delve into this world, and learn how to have the angels on their side, for comfort, protection, and du’as.
Young companions whose stories we will take a deep dive into:
You can’t run away from an enemy, if you don’t know who it is in the first place. This term, students will conduct a detailed case study of Shaytan, the psychology he uses, his tricks, and most importantly, how to protect ourselves from him. We will also take a look at his traps through stories from the lives of the Prophets, and how he attempted to mislead them. We will also explore how much power he really has, who his army is, and what bad deeds he loves the most. Topics we will address:
No, although there will be some formal learning, there will be a relaxed club like element where there will be games, discussions, activities, and termly challenges with prizes. The key will be to develop a rapport with young people and see them grow on this quest to establish a connection with their Lord, by learning about purification of the heart, exploring stories of the best role models, and learning how to fortify themselves from Shaytan.
